WCChapin | Cavalry Cleanup – Preparing the 1891 Argentine Carbine for Reassembly
William C Chapin
Cleaning the 1891 Argentine Cavalry Carbine in anticipation of getting it to the range for initial testing!
The stock appears to be a replacement with sloppy inletting and an odd feeling drop to the comb as compared to an original. It has suffered a crack (and repair) at the tang, most likely from loose recoil lug contact. I may end up replacing the stock. For now, I’ll bed the recoil lug and tang areas to make the stock serviceable.
Although the barrel on this carbine looks pretty bad inside, the receiver is quite nice. It may end up being turned into something entirely different…stay tuned to see what comes out of it!
