WCChapin | Type 99 Arisaka Short Rifle – Overview of a Recently Acquired Kokura Series 20
William C Chapin
A brief look at a Japanese Type 99 Arisaka Short Rifle that I purchased a few days ago. The markings indicate that it is a Series 20 from the Kokura Arsenal, manufactured in 1941.
So far, I’ve looked over the rifle a bit, and run a few patches through the barrel. It chambers 7.7 Japanese brass nicely – the receiver and bolt have matching numbers. Once I disassemble the rifle, I can compare the assembly numbers (if any) that are found inside.
Special thanks to Schupbach’s Sporting Goods for fixing me up with another interesting firearm to explore! I’m hoping to have it ready for one of the upcoming Military Rifle Shoots.

I am Curtis from Jackson, Michigan. My firearms interests include shooting, reloading, casting, a bit of collecting, and occasional competitive shooting.
