A look at the 1898 Krag stock and handguard before and after cleaning.
The weird pasty gunk that had been brushed over the entire rifle was removed from the wood by wiping with solvent. The stock was not stripped or sanded, the existing finish was retained.
Two thin coats of hand rubbed Tung Oil Finish have been applied to protect the stock – once it cures, I’ll decide if another coat will be needed.
