Introduction & Other Incoherent Rambling

Dear Reloader’s Network, Hello, and welcome to my first attempt at an article ever. My name is Norton’s Ammo Bench, and I thought that the best way to get me feet wet in this new arena was for me to introduce myself and give you an idea of what I’m about. My future posts will be […]

My First Rifle and the Start of a Long-Range Journey (TRN Exclusive)

I'm 19 years old and I have very little experience with rifles, or even hand guns at this point. I am aware of the idea of long-range shooting but truly don't know much beyond you shoot at a target that is far away. I am unfamiliar with cartridges, bullet weights and even brands of rifles. I was watching Public Enemies and see Melvin Pervice run the bolt on a Mauser 98 and think to myself, I want a bolt-action rifle. But what brand should I buy?

300 Win Mag – Decisions, Decisions

This is the first in my 300 Win Mag Load Development Series.  I didn’t feel like making a video on this topic as there is not much to show at the moment.  As I sit here and write this article,  I am hoping that I will end it with my mind being made up.  We […]

300 Win Mag – Getting Started Part 2

It's time for a follow-up video. This time I want to talk about some of the excellent questions, suggestions and information from the comments of the last video. I also load up some more ammo and hit the range again. The 240gr Sierra Match King has a 1:9 twist requirement printed on the box, but I want to see if they'll stabilize in the 1:10 twist Thompson Center Compass barrel. I also continue our work with the 220gr Sierra Match King to see if we can shoot some more good groups with them.

300 Win Mag – Thompson Center Compass- Load development 168 Berger Classic Hunter and Reloder 26

300 Win Mag load development with the Thompson Center Compass using the 168 Berger Classic Hunter and Alliant Reloder 26. Up to this point find a Low SD load has proved very difficult. We implement the Scot Satterlee load development data that we generated previously and use that information to choose our test loads in our journey to find a great load for our Thompson Center Compass. This was a $200 rifle that we are going to test to see how accurate it can be with a very budget setup.
