WCChapin | Meet Mabel Mauser – 1912 Chilean Short Rifle
William C Chapin
Meet “Mabel” – my first Military Surplus Rifle – A 1912 Chilean Contract Mauser manufactured in Steyr, Austria by Österreichische Waffenfabriksgesellschaft (CEWG).
Mabel is a “non-matching” example of a Modelo 1912 Short Rifle – the bolt, floor plate and cleaning rod have non-matching numbers. The parade loop for the sling is missing as well.
The initial 8 test shots were fired after checking headspace with carefully formed 7x57mm cases converted from PPU headstamp 8x57mm brass.
Afterward, a box of Hanson Cartridge Company imported commercial ammunition was fired in a standing position with the original Chilean sling.
All shots were taken from 50 yards.
