Pig & Poultry Plates | 7-30 Waters Contender on Ultra 500 IHMSA Silhouettes
William C Chapin
A bit of impromptu footage of shooting Ultra 500 at a recent Silhouette shoot at A. P. Goodrich in Ithaca, Michigan.
I’ve struggled to come up with decent footage of this type of shooting, so I’ll just post the random stuff that I have. I’ll attempt a more formal video in the future
I’m shooting a Thompson/Center Contender with a 7-30 Waters “Hunter” barrel with the factory muzzle brake and a Weaver Classic 2-6 x 32 scope in Weaver Quad-Lock rings (rear offset) on an E. Arthur Brown base.
The load is the PPU .284″ 140 grain PSP in Federal brass and 33.1 grins of IMR 4895 – the velocity is about 2,100 FPS.
I run about -15 MOA of shim on the rear scope ring and a 200 Meter zero for the Chickens. I dial up elevation for the Pigs, Turkeys and Rams.
200 Meter Chickens: 0
300 Meter Pigs: +5.0 MOA
385 Meter Turkeys: +10.0 MOA
500 Meter Rams: +19.0 MOA
In this round, I scored 4 Chickens, 7 Pigs, 6 Turkeys, and 3 Rams for 20/40. Plenty of room for improvement – and not bad at all for my 3rd attempt at Ultra 500.
Special thanks to Mike Hackett and Scott Hardman for all of their help!
I am Curtis from Jackson, Michigan. My firearms interests include shooting, reloading, casting, a bit of collecting, and occasional competitive shooting.
