Cougar On The Trapline, Too Close For Comfort! (4K)

What’s the closest you’ve come to a cougar? A week ago, on our trapline I just about tripped over one!

This video describes what happened to us and is a reminder to be armed when out in the bush, because you never know where and when. Bears may hibernate, but mountain lions are active all year around.

As with wolverines, the Dene people regard them as bad luck, deserving extreme caution, so my wife was not crazy about one coming so close to our cabin.

The handgun shown in this video is a Ruger Security Six with a 2-3/4″ barrel, .357 Magnum, loaded with 200 grain cast bullets. It is classed as a “prohibited weapon” in Canada, but, because I hold a 12(6) license and have an ATC (Authorization To Carry), I am allowed to carry it for protection on the trapline.
