Alright guys, today I’m summoning the inner redneck in my video.  For the longest time, I’ve wanted to shoot a car or vehicle.  Nothing illegal, nothing violent, etc…  I’ve just wanted to legally be able to shoot a car/vehicle and see what different cartridges and rounds do.  Opportunities to do so have almost come to […]

In this video I show most of the steps from start to finish on how I make one of my favorite milk jug exploding 45-70 loads. All the details should be in the video, but if you have any questions, feel free to leave a comment here and I will respond as quickly as I […]

Hodgdon Trail Boss is a great smokeless powder for cartridges like the old 45-70 Government or subsonic load in .308 Winchester. The large volume of this powder makes it possible to fill up a large case for a safe powder burning without the high pressures that would come into play with other smokeless powders. Thanks […]

TC Encore SSK 45-70 with IMR-3031   Well guys, I took the Encore out for a spin, and on the recommendation of Rebel and Georgiaboy44 I got a couple pounds of IMR3031 to try. QuickLOAD predicted no pressure concerns for an Encore that theoretically could be rechambered to 458WinMag, so I did a ladder from 49.3 […]

There are reports of YT removing videos from shooting channels due to them being outside of the YT guidelines on acceptable content. Prohibitions on bump stocks, rapid fire triggers, gun constructs, reloading and unacceptable links are vague enough that shooting channels are having difficulty with the specifics. Here is a video on some very fine […]

Loading the 45/55 Dabo with a new bullet - the Lee 458 405 HB.

The 45/70 was developed by this country to take anything on the North American continent. But the cartridge is so capable that a 300 grain load is still plenty for anything we might run into.

The rifle has been rethroated for my Accurate 46-415S bullet. We took it to the range and shot the upper end for a possible hunting load… from what I saw before, while hopeful, I was dubious of whether or not I would actually find a HARD hitting hunting load… Well, 58.8gr of IMR-3031 was the […]

This is the first trip with my new Encore. It is a New Hampshire TC before S&W bought them. It has a Bellm #3 trigger spring kit which typically results in a 2 1/2-3 lbs trigger pull. Bellm triple lock hammer extension, Bellm #1 oversized hung pin, Revolution Laminate Birch 12 Guage stock Set, SSK […]

The story behind my 1886 Winchester caliber 50-110-300 (50 caliber powder charge 110g bullet weight 300g) also known as a 50-100 with a 450 grain bullet or a 50-105 with a 350 grain bullet.

Most shooters automatically go to full length resizing their 45/70 rounds...but what is happening when we do that? And if our brass is being excessively worked for no good advantage, then perhaps neck sizing is the way to go...

Marlin 1895, Mossberg 500 and some updates

So what happens when it is late at night, and you still have one more load of laundry you gotta get done?  Well, occasionally you get random genius combined with late night weirdness…  That’s what I am delivering today (as well as a wish for all of you to have a great Friday and awesome […]

Shooting the .45-70 Gov't over the chronograph and some redneck science penetration tests with the 405gr Buffalo Bore Jacketed Flat Nose. Thank You for watching!

The Lee 450 grain flat base bullet for the 45/70 was designed for those shooters who preferred a heavier bullet than the 405 grainer, but didn’t want to go all the way to the 500+ grain bullets. We casted this mold a week ago. But because of the minimal grease grooves, let’s powder coat these […]

Today on Kentucky Ballistics we try out a custom Magnum Research BFR 45-70 Snub Nose Revolver! Could this be the most powerful snub nose in the world? I hope you enjoy the video and thanks for watching!

“Bad weather always looks worse through the window.” – Tom Lehrer Here’s the view out my window this morning, October 1, 2018 — “Range Day.” Stop sniveling, you Georgia boys; pull up your sox and put on some boots. You think this’ll hold up a Canuck, eh? Hah! Thomas Pickering P.S. – Trying to get […]

45-70 loaded to the max, 45-90 not a maximum load, 45-90 tried two different loads, these are very tough bullets and even at these outrageous velocities they performed very good, penetration was outstanding

Today on Kentucky Ballistics we see how many pine boards we can make it through with a 30-30 BFR , 45-70 BFR and a 450 Marlin BFR! I hope you enjoy the video and thanks for watching!

Today on Kentucky Ballistics we shoot some 10% ballistic gel with 45-70 and 500 S&W Magnum. We use a revolver and a rifle for each caliber! I hope you enjoy the video and thanks for watching!

TC Encore 45/70 barrels feature standard rifling, not micro groove rifling. My particular barrel shoots .458" cast bullets well. But how well do .4595" bullets perform? Can the bigger diameter bullets that shoot well in micro groove also shoot well in the TC Encore??

This distinctive class of cartridges demands some considerations for best success in our ammo...

Today on Kentucky Ballistics we try out the Magnum Research BFR 450 Marlin and 45-70 revolver! In this video we show you a little about the gun and take you with us to shoot it for the first time. I hope you enjoy the video and thanks for watching! A special thanks to Magnum Research, […]

Sit back, relax, and breath calmly… Time for another FLT Haiku. A Haiku is a Japanese form of poetry consisting of 3 lines with a pattern of 5, 7, 5 syllables. Culture day for all you guys!  (As a side note, thanks to my patreon supporters for providing enough peanut butter to do this video, […]
