Moose Hunting On A Shoe String (and coffee can)

Constantly we are told we need this or that gadget to hunt successfully. Perhaps the stores and marketers want us to forget we can make many such things ourselves? This video is a gentle push in the direction of retaining that sense of self-reliance hunters are known for, so we don’t forget how easy it often is to replicate (and even surpass) the hunting aids many resort to purchasing.

In days past people frequently made the things they needed, like the moose call demonstrated in this video. Here you will see how to make and operate one of your own, using an empty coffee can and a piece of string. Taking along an old shoulder blade bone for rattling bush is also suggested to mimic bulls itching for a battle.

The use of a wall tent with wood stove is also demonstrated and discussed. A wall tent is more flexible than dragging a trailer everywhere and then being limited in terms of where you can put up camp, plus it is easier to afford. With a good tent and stove you can pitch nearly anywhere and be calling moose right after you climb out of the sleeping bag, even in cold conditions.

Further, not everyone can afford an ATV so those in that circumstance have to adapt by bringing the moose to them (where they can haul these large animals out) instead of dropping them miles away, deep into the bush.
