WCChapin | .41 Magnum – Part V – Cast Lead Bullet Hardness Testing – NOE 412-220-SWC
William C Chapin
Testing the hardness of bullets cast during a recent Wednesday evening live stream using a new NOE 412-220-SWC H&G 258 clone mold.
The bullets were cast using a 220 Volt LEE Precision Pro 4-20 Melting Pot that is PID temperature controlled. I ran the alloy at approximately 740° F, and preheated the mold on an aluminum plate.
The alloy was a mixture of wheel weights, some second hand unknown lead/tin alloy, and a pound of linotype.
The bullets were water quenched and aged 9 days prior to hardness testing.
